Expanding computational neuroscience education and early exposure across Africa through training, mentorship, and collaboration.

Our Aim, Objectives & Vision

We’re expanding computational neuroscience knowledge and early exposure across Africa—so more young scholars can learn, grow, and contribute.

Our Aim

The initiative aims to expand computational neuroscience knowledge, education, and early exposure across Africa. By collaborating with established institutions and programs, ACNEI broadens access, strengthens representation, and supports young African scholars to contribute to local and global scientific advancement.

Our Objectives

  • Build a strong educational foundation in computational sciences for young and promising scholars across Africa.
  • Provide accessible, high-quality training and mentorship through virtual and hybrid programs.
  • Bridge the continental gap in representation, participation, and expertise in computational neuroscience.
  • Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within neuroscience research, training, and academic communities across Africa.

Our Vision

To provide a future where young Africans are active contributors in global computational neuroscience research—driving innovation, discovery, and leading transformative projects with global impact.

Our Programs

Four practical pathways for learning, research, and community building in computational neuroscience across Africa.

NeuroComp Africa

Early exposure and hands-on learning for high school and undergraduate learners—through regional hubs, mentorship, and guided projects.

Pan-African Research Network

Connecting researchers, institutions, and resources across Africa to support collaboration, shared learning, and joint publications.

Open-Source Neuroscience Tools

Free tools and learning resources—scripts, notebooks, tutorials, and low-cost hardware ideas—to reduce barriers to learning and research.

Workshop Series

Beginner-friendly virtual workshops in neuroscience, programming, and data science—practical sessions designed for real research problems.
